Lexi was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 3 years ago (September 2010) and has been fighting this disease every day since and will have to fight for the rest of her life! With you and JDRF's help, we can make that fight a little bit easier.
The hardest part is that most people think all Diabetes is the same...well its not. Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure. It has nothing to do with "Sugar", as is a common misconception. She has to prick her finger multiple times a day and take a shot if her blood sugar is too high or if she is about to eat a meal. She has to calculate EVERYTHING she eats, and take units of insulin to off-set it against her blood sugar level. She takes anywhere from 4-6 shots EVERY day! Plus her night-time shot (which helps steady her blood-sugar throughout the day).
The Dordan’s (family and friends) will be walking and volunteering again, for the JDRF Walk for the Cure, to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money we raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please show Lexi your support and donate to our Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease....and most importantly to us, it will make a difference for Lexi.
Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today? If you have any questions, would like to walk with us or need more information of any kind please let me know and I will be happy to help :)
Thank you for your support!
