Welcome to the Truman's Troupe JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!
Truman is 1 of 9 children in our neighborhood that manage this disease every day and every night, and must, until there’s a cure. He was diagnosed 3½ years ago at age 8, and since that time has pricked his fingers 1,275 times to check his blood glucose, given himself or been given 1900 shots, and put in new insulin pump sites (a little needle that inserts a small plastic tube into his muscle) 455 times… and counting. This doesn’t stop until there’s a cure. And what's worse, T1D is on the rise. There has been a 23% increase in T1D in under 20 year olds between 2001 and 2009. 30,000 people are diagnosed every year in the U.S. alone.
We are taking steps to help JDRF achieve its goal of improving the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. By joining our Walk Team and making a donation, you will be helping us to raise funds to directly support research with the greatest potential to conquer this disease.
We are motivated by the courage and perseverance of those facing the everyday challenges of T1D - they are the reason we challenge ourselves to give more, to do more, to achieve more. We challenge ourselves to make a real difference in the lives of those with T1D. Truman is our #1. Who is yours?
Will you accept the challenge to make a difference by donating? All we need you to do is click on the make a donation button and give.
Thank you for your support!
Until there's a cure,
