It is hard to believe another year has come and gone! So many things have changed since last fall, most importantly the birth of our son Charlie! One of the things I have been looking forward to the most about being a mom is taking Charlie to his first JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes! The Walk is such a special part of Luke and my lives, and being able to share it with our son gets me very excited.
In the past, I have asked you to help me raise money to find a cure for everyone living with diabetes like myself. My passion to do this has heightened since Charlie was born. Everyone says you will do anything to protect your child. For me, I have to think of one more thing…I need to protect him from type 1 diabetes (T1D). T1D can be hereditary, so Charlie does have a chance of being diagnosed someday. I want to take that chance from 10% to zero. With your help we can do that.
JDRF has launched a new prevention effort called Type None. JDRF is working to develop a strategy that involves developing vaccines, similar to allergy shots, which train the body’s immune system not to initiate an attack on the beta cells. Charlie could receive this shot similar to the MMR or polio vaccine to make sure he does not develop the disease in his lifetime. All this requires more funding. It will take tens of millions of dollars to continue this research and make prevention a reality. With your support, together we can change Type One into Type None and Charlie will no longer be at risk of developing this disease.
Now more than ever, you can make a real difference in my life, Charlie’s future and the lives of all people with T1D. Please either join me as a fundraiser or support me with a donation. It’s simple, fast and fun! To get make a donation; please visit my personal page at the link below.
Thank you again for all of your support over the years. You all have made a huge difference in my life and I know with your support, you will make a difference in Charlie’s life as well.
