Join our team in the fight to help create a world without Type 1 Diabetes!
In the 18 months since Trey's diagnosis, he has already received over 6,000 finger pricks and over 2,000 shots. That is a staggering amount of needle pokes for a little boy to endure. About a year ago Trey started wearing an insulin pump so rather than receiving a minimum of 5 shots a day, he now gets 1 shot every 2-3 days. He has had 140 pump site changes since starting on the pump. The pump gives him more flexibility and less needle pokes, but it is NOT a cure. He now must be attached to his pump 24 hours a day in order to stay alive. We closely monitor his diet, by counting every carbohydrate he eats and measuring and weighing his food. We must test Trey's blood sugar levels at least 8 times a day by pricking his finger and program his carbs into the insulin pump every time he eats. Trey has his finger pricked every time he eats, exercises, shows symptoms of having a high or low blood sugar, at bedtime, and even in the middle of the night when he is sleeping. Diabetes NEVER sleeps and NEVER takes a vacation. This will continue daily for the rest of his life unless a cure is found.
The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the lives of people affected by Type 1 Diabetes. For at least that one day, Trey will look around and see all the support he has from his family, friends and community. On Walk Day, everyone can have fun and celebrate how much closer to a cure we are because of their efforts.
The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more Type 1 Diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Won't you please join our team by walking with us on October 19, 2013? Please join us in helping find a cure for our little guy by making a donation to JDRF. Click on the "Donate to Trey" button at the top of the page. Click on the "Join My Team" button to register as a Walker.
Thank you for supporting Trey and JDRF. Together, we can make a CURE a REALITY!
