Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Wyatt's Walkers Team Page! We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF's mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research for our Wyatt and all suffer with this disease. The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
Our Wyatt is now 10 years old and in 4th grade. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 5.5 years ago at age 4. This disease has left him insulin dependent for the rest of his life. He endures at least 8 finger pokes and 7 insulin shots everyday. This means that in 5.5 years, he has received more than 15,900 finger pokes and 12,700 shots. We are so happy that Wyatt no longer ensures the insulin shots; he started an insulin pump in September! While he still gets the finger pokes, we are so happy to have fewer needles in our life. Though we are blessed with this improved technology, Wyatt still doesn't want to do this for even one more day, much less the rest of his life. The only thing we can hope for is a cure. And we need your help and support to achieve one!
The Walk is one JDRF's top fundraisers. It also an awesome way to make a difference in the lives of people affected by Type 1 Diabetes. This Walk means so much to Wyatt because for that one day, he can look around and see how many of his family and friends care about him and about finding him a cure. On Walk Day, we will have a great time walking and also celebrating at our annual post-walk party. Please consider joining us as we hope to make our last walk in Green Bay our best yet!
