Join me in the fight to cure type 1 diabetes for my brother!

It's the time of year when we ask all of our family & friends to support us as we take part in the annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes.

My brother Wyatt is now 10 years old and in 4th grade. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 5.5 years ago at age 4. This disease has left him insulin dependent for the rest of his life. He endures at least 8 finger pokes everyday. This means that in 5.5 years, he has received more than 15,800 finger pokes. For most of this time, he received insulin shots each day; this was more than and 12,500 shots. In September, Wyatt switched to an insulin pump, so no more shots. This is a wonderful technology that wouldn't have been possible without JDRF and their support bringing it to market years ago. To most, he looks like every other ten year old, yet he bears a burden most other kids his age do not. He tries to be a normal fourth grader, even though he spends a lot of time at school going back and forth to the office for blood sugar checks; sometimes he even misses recess. He doesn't want to do this for even one more day, much less the rest of his life. The only thing we can hope for is a cure.

Please join our family team "Wyatt's Walkers" as we will again be participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes in Green Bay (De Pere) at the Brown County Fairgrounds on May 11. Our family and friends are walking to show that they care about Wyatt and the cure. If you are unable to join the team, we would greatly appreciate a monetary donation of any amount. We need your help!

People always tell us how sorry they are for Wyatt and for what our family goes through living with this disease. They ask how we deal with it & wonder how hard it must be. Well, the truth is that it is really hard, it really stinks that he has diabetes & he would do anything not to have it. But don't feel sorry for him - HELP HIM by helping us raise money to find a cure.

JDRF is the number one non-profit funder of diabetes research worldwide. It sets the global agenda for diabetes research. In a typical year, upwards of 80% of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. With the cure being their ultimate goal, they also fund research into cause and prevention. A scary fact is that of all children born after the year 2000, 1 in 3 will be diagnosed with diabetes. This disease is rising at an alarming rate with incidences doubling every 20 years. While we pray for a cure for Wyatt, we also pray that our younger two children do not develop the disease as well.

There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality for our Wyatt and all who suffer with this disease!

Thank You!
