Dear Friends and Family,
It's that time again! Alicia and I are raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Our total so far is only $0.000 :-(, but I am confident that this will change rather quickly. We are hoping to match or beat our last year total of $400.
Overall our team (MOOWellness) raised over $2400 for the 2010 walk thanks to the dedication and perseverance of Alicia, myself and our teammates.
This year the annual walk will be held on September 15th, 2012 at the Milwaukee County Zoo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
As you may know, Diabetes is a personal issue in my family. Though type 2 (adult onset) is the specific disease that occurs, I can't help but remember a friend in college who was dating a guy who had type 1. Jac loved him for all the world but he didn't want kids because of his Diabetes. He was worried about putting his children through the hell he was always dealing with.
Diabetes is debilitating to say the least. In my experience with type 2, I saw the agony of taking a daily shot or even a shot twice a day. Last year I met children and adults alike who go through even more. They have to regulate and monitor their sugar levels throughout the day. One family even had an infant (under 1 year mind you) who was constantly monitored but was also the first in their family to ever be diagnosed with Diabetes, let alone type 1! The poor thing had hourly, yes I said HOURLY, shots of insulin to regulate her little system.
Our family history is why I chose to do a walk last year for Diabetes. Jac and Vince are the reasons why I decided to go to bat for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). I don't know what I would do if Alicia had been born with Diabetes! Luckily she wasn't and I seriously count the blessings on that one.
Alicia and I would greatly appreciate if you would be so kind as to help us raise money for this worthy cause. There are a few ways you can help. You could either donate (online, by mail, in person) or you can join us as a walker for a fun day at the zoo. Below is a link to the Walk for a Cure site. Please check out the wonderful things that the JDRF is doing for this cause.
