Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
Carson, who is 13 and our youngest son, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes four years ago. We celebrate his anniversary every May 15th by going to BDubs. It is a ritual we look forward to. It is a different ritual than the countless times Carson has to prick a finger in order to check his blood sugar levels each and every day. It may not seem like a struggle, but when you have to know how to count carbs and adjust the insulin levels in the pump to keep those readings between 80-150 all the while being an extremely active teenager, it is incredibly difficult. Carson amazes me. I am in awe of him. He has this ritual down pat and he makes it look easy. We all wish he didn't have Type 1 Diabetes but that won't get us anywhere. One of the first nights we were home from him being diagnosed, we were lying in bed with tears in our eyes as we faced this daunting disease. He asked the question..."Why me?" I told him I don't know but let's look at this way...Carson, you have Type 1 Diabetes for a reason. We may not know what that reason is right now but one day we will know. Let's embrace this and do everything in our power to not have this dictate what your life is going to be. No more tears were shed and Carson is living his life to the fullest and enjoying every single minute of it.
'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people in addition to Carson living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
