Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!
As you may know, Kelby was diagnosed as T1D on September 21, 2011 at the age of 6. He has embraced his new way of life and takes it all in stride. He pricks his fingers about 10-15 times a day (depending on meals and how he feels), gets insulin 4 times a day, and is able to tell when he feels high or low blood sugars. He knows that he has to count his carbohydrates and give himself insulin accordingly. He understands that he can also lead a very normal, heathy, active lifestyle. He plays the Wii, baseball, hockey, shot put and javelin in track and swims regularly. He plays with his friends, and they have all embraced his diagnosis and help keep an eye on him. He helped teach the kids in his grade about being T1D and had them watch a video to help understand it. Now, he walks not only for himself, but for others like him, who are T1D. He hopes above all to find a cure and someday be T1D free!
We are taking steps to help JDRF achieve its goal of improving the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. By joining our Walk Team and making a donation, you will be helping us to raise funds to directly support research with the greatest potential to conquer this disease.
We are motivated by the courage and perseverance of those facing the everyday challenges of type 1 diabetes - they are the reason we challenge ourselves to give more, to do more, to achieve more. We challenge ourselves to make a real difference in the lives of those with T1D.
Will you accept the challenge to make a difference by walking with us? All we need you to do is click on the "Join this Team" button, make a donation, and begin fundraising. It’s simple, fast, and fun!
