Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
I've known Lili since kindergarten, and we became close friends in second grade. One of the problems Lili deals with at school is eating. Every time Lili eats, she needs to have an insulin shot. Special treat times at school like parties and birthday celebrations are hard. Sometime Lili can't participate in the food celebrations, and if she can, her mom has to come in and measure the treat and give her a shot first. She leaves class early before lunch to get a shot in the nurse's office.
When Lili comes to my house to play, she has to prick her finger and check her blood sugar levels a lot. My mom texts her mom her number. Sometimes she needs to take glucose tablets if she's low, and then check again in a few minutes. Sometimes if we're hungry she can't eat because it's not time for a shot. We've learned that cheese, sausage and peppers are safe snacks to have!
Lili is a special friend to me. She sticks up for me at school and nevers excludes me from games or groups. She is super funny and makes me laugh. She has great ideas, is smart, and we always keep busy having fun when we're together! I notice a difference in Lili when she's low. I can tell because she gets a tummy ache, can feel grumpy and a bit tired.
I wish Lili didn't have T1D. She deserves to live her life not having to worry every day about her blood sugar.
I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) like Lili. The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
