Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! I'll be taking part in this year?s Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening. And they know it never goes away.
I am asking for your support. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.
Meet Bryn Fierro, our T1D hero. Bryn was diagnosed at 13 months of age, one of the youngest children to ever have to deal with diabetes. After two weeks of acute illness, thought to be pneumonia, Bryn was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Since he was not responding to treatment and was losing consciousness, the ER staff began running labs. Within minutes of arriving, his blood sugar was found to be 470 and diagnosis was confirmed. Bryn was admitted to the PICU and remained unconscious for 19 hours. He spent six days in the hospital recovering from DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) while his family began the process of learning how to care for him at home. While the transition was difficult, scary, and completely unexpected, Bryn's sweetness and bravery was and continues to be inspirational.
Bryn receives anywhere from 10 to 20 pokes per day, consisting of several blood sugar checks and 3 to 6 insulin injections. Because Bryn is so young, he is not yet a candidate for an insulin pump or continuous glucose monitor, but the options remain open for the future. It is a rare day when Bryn actively protests to any of his treatments; it has truly become a normal part of his life. Bryn is a hilarious and healthy tank of a 2-year-old, and is deeply loved by his family and friends.
Did you know that:
As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
Thank you for your support!
