I have Type 1 Diabetes and I have to get four shots every day - more if I want a big snack. I don't like having the shots so I'm hoping for a cure. I also have to get my sugar tested lots during the day and at night.
Let me tell you a story: I started playing basketball and it was my first game. I felt very excited and couldn't wait to play. But then I was low for most of the game, so I couldn't play most of it. My Dad gave me lots and lots of stuff that had sugar in it because that makes my blood sugar go up, but it didn't work. It took us almost the whole game to get my blood sugar up high enough to play. I felt very sad that I missed so much of the game.
Even though I have diabetes I still get to do lots of fun stuff like play basketball, do Tae Kwon Do, and play outside. I also like to watch TV and play Minecraft with my brother and my Dad.
Please give me money to help find a cure!!
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
