Will's Walkers - Stepping Out To Cure Type 1 Diabetes

Glad you stoppped by our page! Our family has decided to participate in this year's JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes as a way to celebrate and support Will and other kiddos just like him, who are living with Type 1 diabetes every day.

If you know Will,  you know that he hasn't missed a beat since he was diagnosed on September 19, 2012 (and actually has more energy than ever!) He is healthy, happy, and thriving, despite having diabetes. He can - and does! - do anything and everything that any other child can do.

We put a tremendous amount of work into making sure Will stays healthy. Many of you are familiar with the behind-the-scenes routine, which includes as many as ten blood sugar checks per day and careful counting for every carb that goes into his mouth, along with multiple doses of insulin to help his little body process these carbs.

We also keep a close eye on him at night, checking sugars every three to four hours while he sleeps, to prevent him from going too low or too high. Fortunately for all of us, Will's learned to sleep right through these checks!

We are planning to walk as a family, but would love for any of you to join us! The walk is on September 29th, at noon. It is two miles and is located at Warner Park. This is our first walk, but I hear there is a ton of fun for the whole family - games, food, entertainment and more!

The money we raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
