Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!
Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
I was diagnosed as diabetic just before starting high school. It was a HUGE surprise and a big adjustment for me and my family. I learned how to incorporate testing my blood sugar, giving myself insulin shots and counting what I ate. It was a big change, but I had a lot of support. Today I use an insulin pump which has allowed me greater control, and ease in daily life.
I participated in my first walk the year I was diagnosed to help support research for a cure and in the meantime assistance in better care. This year I am participating in the walk to try and raise money again for research, as well as a rememberance for my dad, Ed Gaskill. He passed away 5 years ago and was a constant support in my life. He was on the board for The American Diabetes Association and participated in the walk while I was away in college, unable to come home. My family and I decided to walk together to help raise money and remember my dad.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
