Dear Friends and Family :)
My oldest daughter, Harmonie (age 7), was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes, Type 1, over Thanksgiving vacation last year. Watching Harmonie handle her diabetes on a daily basis is rough BUT she does handle it VERY well! We have been blessed with her acceptance to be faced to deal with this multiple times a day/night and even for the rest of her life. Even doctors are amazed at how well she handles this! She is vibrant, smart and full of life! For someone like me who was afraid to get one shot a year certainly does not measure up to someone that has to handle MULTIPLE needles a day!
The care and management for diabetes has come a LONG way from many years ago. We are certainly blessed that it is manageable on many different levels and hope that someday there will be a cure. In speaking with her endocrinologist (diabetes doctor), Dr. McDonald from UW-Children's Hospital, they are not that far away to finding a cure. Dr. McDonald is the chair and director of Diabetes research at UW-Madison. In listening to him and watching the care that he gives his patients makes us want to work even harder in helping him find this cure. So, we ask that you join us for the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Walk to Cure Diabetes in Madison (Warner Park) on Sunday, September 29th at 11:00 a.m..
Even if you can't walk with us, we ask that you consider making a donation to help our researchers find a cure. Research does show that each year, more children are being diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. I know there are worse diseases or health issues out there that also need a cure and we pray that we can someday help them as well.
In closing, let me know if you would like to come walk for Harmonie and for the rest of our children out there that need this cure.
When searching for our team or to make a donation...we can be found using Team "Harmonie's Hope" or search for "Tammy Clauer" as a walker. Thank you for your support! :)
Below is more information from the Diabetes team page......
Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
We're taking steps to help JDRF progressively remove the impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D) from people's lives until no one has to fear developing this disease. By joining our Walk to Cure Diabetes team and making a donation to JDRF, you'll raise money to help fund critical T1D research and create a world without T1D.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge we've set ourselves - to raise money for JDRF and to walk - is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
Will you accept the challenge to make a difference by walking with us? Just click on the "Join this Team" button, make a donation, and start fundraising.
Thank you for your support, and we'll see you on Walk day!
