PRE-WALK INFORMATION

 Does everyone on our team need to register?

Although it is not required, we encourage all participants to register online. We use the number of registered walkers to determine the amount of food, drink, t-shirts, and parking that will be needed.   If you have more than 35 registered walkers, please email vmcwatters@jdrf.org so we can work with you to plan a meeting place for your team to gather on Walk Day. 

 

Do I need to pay a registration fee?

No. Walkers are encouraged to earn a 2018 JDRF One Walk t-shirt by raising $100 or more, but you are not required to donate or raise money to attend the Walk. 

 What do I do if I hit my fundraising goal?

THANK YOU for raising critical funds for research!  Now, you might consider raising your goal and asking a few more people to support your effort.  Remember, your goal is not a pledge, but what you hope to raise in support of JDRF’s mission to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through research.  Every dollar counts and brings us one step closer to a cure! NOTE: sometimes your company will have a matching gift program that can double your fund raising efforts.

What do I do with money I have collected? 

Please send donations and matching gift forms to the chapter office in advance of the Walk. The walker and team names are needed to ensure donations are applied correctly. Checks should be made payable to JDRF and sent to 4343 E Camelback Rd, Ste 230, Phoenix, AZ 85018.  Call for office hours if you prefer to drop off your donations, 602.224.1800.  We really appreciate you sending in donations as you receive them.

What if I have questions?

HOW DO I GET A TEAM TENT?

Your team can earn a Family Team Tent on Walk Day in our Family Team Village.  Here’s how!

  • Raise $5,000+ and receive a table and chairs under the Family Team Village tent
  • Raise $7,500+  and receive your own personal team tent
  • Raise $10,000+ or more will receive a special swag bag!


Corporate Teams

  • Raise $5,000+ and receive your own corporate team tent under the Corporate Village

Teams who raise $3,500+ will receive a 24’’ corrugated baseball sign (like the one pictured below) featuring your team name! They will be located on the Cubs Stadium baseball field. These are great for team photos at the walk and as a souvenir.

WALK DAY DETAILS

What should I wear?

We walk rain or shine so consider the forecast as you get ready.  Remember to wear comfortable shoes, and plenty of sunscreen.

What is the schedule of the day?

7:30 AM  Check-In opens, family fun activities, vendors, and food available

9:00 AM  5K Walk Starts


Ron Hoon and the FOX10 Phoenix team will be our emcee for the morning. Make sure to get there early and be part of the fun!

When should I arrive?

There is a lot to do at the Walk.  We suggest that you arrive early to leave enough time for meeting up with your team, turning in donations at the Check-In tent, visiting vendors, meeting other teams and of course, enjoying the fun activities.

Where is the Walk? Where should I park?

The 2018 JDRF One Walk will be held at Sloan Park (Cubs Spring Training Stadium).  2330 W Rio Salado Pkwy, Mesa, AZ 85201.  Parking will be available in the Orange Lot located on the corner of Dobson Rd and Riverview Auto Dr.

What do I do when I arrive?

Upon arrival, gather with your team. It’s helpful to decide when and where your team will meet beforehand.  A site map will be available closer to the event to help you find a great place to meet your team. Teams with 35 or more walkers should email vmcwatters@jdrf.org for additional information.

IF YOU HAVE DONATIONS TO DROP OFF ON WALK DAY OR WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A DONATION ON WALK DAY…      please visit the Check-In tent located on the northeast corner of our Walk Site. There will be envelopes available, but if you have one already filled out with your team name, walker name, home address, phone and total, it will speed up the process.  You DO NOT need to check in if you have already turned in your donations prior to the Walk.

What if I need information at the Walk?

There will be a JDRF Information tent located just east of the Vendor Village on Walk Day.  There will be route maps, site layout maps and general information available.

How long is the Walk?

The walk is approximately a 5K or 3.1 miles.

When do the on-stage Walk festivities begin?

About an hour prior to the start of the Walk, teams will begin to make their way to the Main Stage for the Walk festivities. 

Following the Opening Ceremony and warm-up at the Main Stage, the ribbon-cutting will take place at 9:00am, officially starting the 2018 JDRF One Walk. 


Will there be food available?

Be sure to have breakfast before you arrive. There will be free grab-and-go snacks and water generously provided by Bashas’ Family of Stores and water along the route.

What if we have medical emergency at the Walk? 

EMT and first aid kits stocked with low supplies will be on-site.  If you should have a medical emergency, please contact a volunteer wearing a light blue shirt for assistance, or visit the First Aid tent located near the stage.
