Hello! For the 9th straight year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with the rest of Jake's Crew, in Tacoma!
Our team goal this year, as it has been the past 8 walks, is to raise at least $20,000 and have the largest family team. Please sign up to walk with us, donate or both! Your support is greatly appreciated!
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin no longer function.
To manage Jake's diabetes, he gets about 12 blood sugar checks (finger pokes) per day. He gets sugar checks during the middle of the night to ensure he's safe while he sleeps. Managing Jake's diabetes is a team effort, as the whole family takes part in assisting Jake each day.
Type 1 diabetes has a sudden and dramatic onset, and it lasts a lifetime. THERE IS NO CURE FOR TYPE 1 DIABETES. It can cause devastating long-term health complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, and blindness.
There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Together, we can make the cure a reality!
