Together we can make a difference!

Dear Friends and Family,

Every year our family participates in the Walk to Cure Diabetes. The event this year marks, nearly to the day, the 6 year anniversary of Kirran's diagnosis with diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which all of the insulin making cells in the pancreas are destroyed. It's the most severe form of diabetes. It's lifelong, and unrelenting, requiring 24 hour a day management with blood sugar checks (finger pricks) and insulin dosing by injection or insulin pump.  Good blood sugar management is crucial for future good health. It's a challenge that Kirran and millions of other people who live with type 1 diabetes are up against every day -regulating sugar and insulin, exercise and food -in an effort to stay healthy.

This year we're feeling especially hopeful because of all of the recent advances in diabetes research and technology. The technology that already aids Kirran in managing his sugar levels is truly amazing. The insulin pump that he wears is so precise and specific to Kirran's needs that it allows him much freedom in his food and exercise choices throughout the day. He also wears a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), a device that continually measures his sugar levels, giving him better control and ensuring his safety around the clock. There's a tremendous amount of great research going on, work leading toward preventing diabetes and perhaps even finding a cure someday.

But it's only through continued support, from people like you, that we will see such advances continue. This year, we kindly ask you to join us in support of Kirran, our source of inspiration.  Kirran hopes to be a MLS League soccer player some day. He likes to read comic books, play his guitar, and spend time with his friends!  He doesn't let the fact that he has diabetes stop him from doing anything. Kirran looks forward to the yearly JDRF Walk because he "wants to help the scientists save people's lives." And he knows that together we can make a difference!

All donations, large or small, are greatly appreciated, and will go toward bettering the lives of the millions of people worldwide who live with diabetes.

Thank you so much from all of us!
