I wish for a Cure of Diabetes!

I'm Megan, I am 5, I love coloring, reading, singing and playing with my friends and family. I just started kindergarten and am taking ballet and tap.

I have decided that I am more independent this year. I prick my own fingers 8 times a day and I have been removing my own sites! Even though it really hurts!

Site changes are the worst! I tell my mommy that I will be brave when it comes time to change my site every 3 days but I end up crying and not letting her do it without a fight. Even, when she gives me $2 to do it on my tummy.

I don't understand why I have diabetes and why others don’t have to do the things I do or miss out on the things I do. I don’t know how to tell my new friends at school what is in my pump band. I just tell them I have diabetes but they don’t understand either.

My brother says he doesn't want to get diabetes too. My mommy, Uncle Mike and Grandpa Mike all have diabetes too. I help mommy put her pump on when she changes hers but Brian runs from the room when they change mine, probably because I scream so much!

I feel better now, when will I be done with diabetes?

Maybe this walk will raise money to help the doctors make a cure.

Thank you to all that help make me healthy and to all my friends for not being scared of my diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.

I am asking for your support. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.

Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?

Thank you for your support!
