Wow another year has passed since Megan's diagnosis, September 2011. She has been doing really well with the constant finger pricks, even does them herself only yet officially hates the insulin pump site changes every 2-3 days and has developed a huge anxiety when it comes time to change it.
You can’t imagine the pain that you feel when your little blue eyed girl with tears in her eyes says “Why me mommy? It’s not fair! When will it go away? It hurts and you lie when you tell me it doesn’t, I don’t want to change my site, it will hurt” Once it is done, I hold her and tell her I am sorry. I know it’s not that painful, considering I do it myself, but she tells me it’s because I’m bigger and she doesn’t have enough fat :)
She is loving Kindergarten; recess and lunch with friends, library, science, PE and she is reading as if she knew how all along! Each of these activities can have different affects on Megan’s blood sugars. We can breathe a bit easier though because thankfully we have a full time nurse onsite to assist her with her multiple finger pricks, pump therapy and low blood sugars. She has an awesome teacher who is very in tune and classmates that help walk her to the office when her sugars drop.
When she says how much she hates diabetes all I can do is agree with her... we all do.
Join us, "Megan's Team," at the 2014 JDRF walk May 10, 9-12 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, WA. It is a stroller friendly walk that starts and ends at Cheney Stadium.
Our team is made up of friends and family who are helping fund a cure and support a family with 3 generations of diabetics ranging from Megan(5) Amy (39) Mike Jr(44) and Mike Sr(63)
Last year we surpassed our goal and raised $11,055! Total for the past 2 years we have raised $19,817! It amazes me each year, the support of our friends, family and community members who come together to give us hope to someday find a cure!
We will be having our annual restaurant takeover on April 3, between 4-8 at Joeseppis, so save the date or buy your raffle tickets early :) Also please let me know if you have any items or packages you would like to donate towards the raffle/auction.
Each day we hear of new research that JDRF is helping to bring to reality. It gives us hope and makes us driven even more, to do as much as possible to help raise funds for a cure.
Any research can help make Megan's life a little easier. If not a cure, a safer and less painful way of balancing every minute of everyday.
This is our 3rd year participating in the Walk for a Cure. We really appreciate your support emotionally, physically and financially. Join us!
We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF's mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
Just click on the 'Join this Team' button, make a donation and begin fundraising. If you can't join us but want to donate, you can donate to the team via an individual walker found below or directly to the team. It's simple, fast and fun!
Thank you for your support and see you on Walk day!
