Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!
As many of you know, my daughter Darla Seychelle Odegard was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on Feb. 13th of 2012 at just 8 years old. It has been another year of growth, and I am excited this year to report after giving it much thought, Darla has agreed to get on the insulin pump!! This is the first insulin pump to be designated by the FDA as an artificial pancreas... Pretty exciting!! I'm so proud of how she handles this all.... One strong little lady she has become:) and the best part is it ... this pump system monitors her blood sugars all the time so if she gets a low blood sugar in the night (or any time) an alarm sounds and it shuts off!!! Technology is pretty amazing and this is what donating to juvenile diabetes research foundation gives us! However my on-going wish more than anything in the world is that a cure will be found; and for my daughter’s sake and all those other children dealing with this difficult disease; one will be found soon! Every day that goes by that her insulin levels in her body fluctuate it is aging her little body, mainly her vascular and nervous systems. Excessive sugar in the blood stream over time weakens these systems and causes long term effects that I don’t even like to think about. The sooner a cure is found the more likely Darla will NOT have to worry about the long term toll it takes on her body. We will be taking part in this year's Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening. And they know it never goes away. Research is making strides every day and I am optimistic a cure will be found soon and it will GO AWAY!!
We are taking steps to help JDRF achieve its goal of improving the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. By joining our Walk Team and making a donation, you will be helping us to raise funds to directly support research with the greatest potential to conquer this disease.
We are motivated by the courage and perseverance of those facing the everyday challenges of type 1 diabetes - they are the reason we challenge ourselves to give more, to do more, to achieve more. We challenge ourselves to make a real difference in the lives of those with T1D.
Will you accept the challenge to make a difference by walking with us? All we need you to do is click on the "Join this Team" button, make a donation, and begin fundraising. It’s simple, fast, and fun!
Thank you for your support, and we’ll see you on Walk day!
