Support Nicolette and Alex in the fight against Type 1 Diabetes.

Welcome to my JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes personal fundraising page!

On August 2, 2008 our lives changed forever when our sweet 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  Just when we were somewhat getting into a groove her 4 year old little brother was diagnosed 7 months later.  Needless to say, it not what we would have chosen for our babies, but through God's abundant grace and provision they lead lives filled with promise and hope.  I like to say that they may have diabetes, but it doesn't have them.

I'm joining this year's Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of millions of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF advance its strategic research plan to end T1D.

T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, which the body needs to get energy from food. Managing the disease requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and  dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off.  Since Nicolette's diagnosis she has checked her blood sugar approximately 16,000 times and Alex approximately 14,000.  This doesn't include the pokes they receive every 3 days to change their sites for their insulin pumps.  But, that's the easy part.  Trying to manage blood sugars in relation to the type of food they are eating, exercise they are getting, sleeping through the night and illnesses is the tricky part.  We are extremely grateful for the advances that have been made in T1D care.

JDRF is working every day to change that. And, as the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research, every dollar JDRF directs toward its research plan comes from donors like you.

Please support my commitment and donate to my Walk fundraising efforts today. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.  It will make a difference for Nicolette and Alex.

Thank you for your support!
