Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
As you know, 3 months ago shortly before Thanksgiving Emilee, was diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. What this means is that she is now insulin-dependent for the rest of her life. In this short amount of time she has already endured over 1,400 fingerpricks and over 400 insulin injections. Emilee is in a constant battle to keep her blood sugar from dropping or soaring. Our family grapples with blood sugar checks, insulin dosage calculations, and carbohydrate counts daily. These efforts will not make the disease go away; they merely manage it in the hope of averting seizures or coma, and long-term consequences such as vision impairment, heart disease, and nerve damage. The only way to eliminate these risks is through a cure, so our family enthusiastically supports the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), a non-profit organization with the sole mission of raising and directing funds to the development of a cure for juvenile diabetes. JDRF directs over 85% of contributions directly toward diabetes research, receives top rankings from independent sources that rate charitable giving and has funded over $1.16 billion in research since its founding in 1970. Your generous donation can help Emilee and the millions like her live in a world without diabetes! Thank you for your love and support!!!
