Niabi Zoo Walk To Cure Diabetes - Rich the Diabetic
This is my 4th year in the Niabi Zoo's JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on May 3rd 2014. I've lived with type 1 diabetes for 44 years now. Diagnosed at age 2 in 1970. Although it's called juvenille diabetes, many adults are also diagnosed with it. It doesn't matter when you were diagnosed though, the fact is, type 1 diabetes isn't just a childhood disease. Type 1 diabetes cannot be cured or reversed with diet and exercise. It means I'm dependant on external insulin that's either injected or pumped into my body. I've lived with it all my life. I've already suffered cardiac arrest at age 34, caused by a complication of diabetes.I walk for a cure so that no one else need suffer that fate. JDRF is the leading non-profit contributor to diabetes cure research. Yes, it's possible to live with, and treat diabetes, . . . but a cure would set us free.
