Join me at the 2012 JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes!

Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes on May 10, 2014 at NewBo Market in Cedar Rapids.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) on Feb 21, 2011 at 7 years old.  We thought I had the flu only to discover it was diabetes that was making me so sick.   Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food.  It can strike at any age and lasts a lifetime.

In July 2011, I started getting my insulin through a pump.  While this helps me give my insulin through a site instead of several shots a day, I still prick my finger 6-10 times a day to check my blood sugar.  Sometimes, when I am playing sports, I have to check even more.   This equates to over 2, 500 finger pokes a year!!    I also change my site every 3 days which is 122 times a year.

There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.

I am asking for your support. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people like me living with type 1 diabetes.

Thank you for your support!
