Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!

Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!

This is my third year participating in JDRF's Walk.  On July 15th 2011, at the age of 5, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.   I will never forget that date and it will always be known as “T1 Diagnosis Day”.  It is a day that holds many emotions for myself and everyone that is touched by my beautiful spirit.  Today I am 8 years old, and in 2nd grade.

In the 32 months (960 days) that I have had Type 1 Diabetes, I have had to endure 7,680 finger pricks, 4,860 insulin shots.  Type 1 Diabetes is a 24/7/365 disease that doesn’t sleep.  This past fall I made a big decision and decided to get an insulin pump and a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor).  These new devices allow us to manage and monitor my blood sugars levels more closely.  It also gives me more confidence to continue to enjoy her personal interests and activities with her friends.  We wouldn’t have these technologies is if wasn’t for JDRF and there constant pursuit of better treatments.

Emotionally, Type 1 Diabetes is not an easy thing for a child who is maturing physically and emotionally each day.   At times I think having T1 diabetes is not fair and questioning why there isn’t a cure.  I just want to be a kid!  What we all can do is support Morgan and JDRF.

In July 2013, I went to Capitol Hill as part of JDRF's Children's Congress and tell her story.  As a family we continue to educate about Type 1 Diabetes, provide support to other families, and volunteer for JDRF Advocacy.

Today, I keep smiling and let others know that Type 1 Diabetes will not stop me from doing activites and achieving my dreams.

We are taking steps to help JDRF achieve its goal of improving the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. By joining our Walk Team and making a donation, you will be helping us to raise funds to directly support research with the greatest potential to conquer this disease.

We are motivated by the courage and perseverance of those facing the everyday challenges of type 1 diabetes - they are the reason we challenge ourselves to give more, to do more, to achieve more. We challenge ourselves to make a real difference in the lives of those with T1D.

If you have taken time to visit our team page today, we ask that you consider making a donation or joining our team. To join the team we need you to click on the "Join this Team" button.
