JOIN US IN THE FIGHT TO MAKE LANE'S TYPE 1 - TYPE NONE
Dear Friends and Family,
As most of you may know, 2014 brought our family a whole new set of challenges. On January 5th, our 22 month old son, Lane, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
While in the hospital, my husband Kurt and I received a “crash course” education on how to care for Lane and his T1D. We learned to poke his little fingers 6-8 times a day to check his blood sugars, learned to fill insulin syringes with insulin and administer shots into his delicate little body 4+ times a day. Lane is terrified of all of the “new normals” that is now his life, so Kurt and I have tried to remain strong for him, even though we are equally as scared.
Now, Lane has lived with T1D for a little over 3 months. Even though we have developed a routine with blood sugar checks and insulin injections, the unpredictability of Lane’s disease is the cause of many sleepless nights and stress filled days. As most parents do, we want the very best for our son, so Kurt and I decided that we are going to join Eastern Iowa JDRF in the fight against T1D.
Eastern Iowa JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is an organization dedicated to finding the cure for T1D. Not only does this organization raise funds for the prevention, treatment and cure for T1D, but their staff also plays an active role in supporting families by reaching out to them. In our case, JDRF came to visit us in the hospital the day after Lane was diagnosed and offered kind words of encouragement.
We have formed a Walk team for the 2014 Cedar Rapids JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on May 10th. Our team, TEAM LANE, will be walking and raising funds with the hopes that our efforts, paired with the generosity and support from all of you, will help turn Lane’s Type One into Type NONE! We would like all of you to join us in this fight against T1D.
