Hello! Again this year, my family and I will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $89 million.
Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children. As many of you know, we have been dealing with this disease since Matt was diagnosed in May 2008. Some days are good and some are not. It is sad to see so many children afflicted with such an overwhelming and all consuming condition. Matt is our family's inspiration. If he can adjust and cope with this ever changing condition on a daily basis and still have a smile on his face, then we can certainly do our part by walking to help to raise funds to find a cure for this disease.
JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure. Together, we can make the cure a reality for all those children currenlty afflicted and those yet to be diagnosed.
