On October 19, 2014 our family will be walking once again in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Many of you know,we have a personal connection with type 1 diabetes (T1D) that affects millions of children and adults. Our daughter, Kaley, was diagnosed with T1D almost 8years ago.
As you are aware, this diagnosis of T1D has changed all of our lives forever. Each year we have shared with you updates and changes with our journey. In August Kaley started her freshman year at Eastern CT State University. She is happy, has met lots of great people, is playing soccer and is enjoying her classes. We want more than anything for Kaley to feel as normal as possible and be part of the college community just like any other parent of a college student wants. However, we have a constant worry,a worry if she will to drop low in the middle of the night and no one will be aware. The adjustment of leaving home, starting college, and dealing with diabetes without the support of family, or doctor nearby is a struggle. Over these past 8 years as a family we have faced many challenges and within the whirlwind of those emotions, we understood that education is and always will be the key to a successful diabetes management.
The 2014 JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is going to take place at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts. We are asking you to help us raise money to defeat diabetes and to get rid of this horrible disease. On Sunday, October 19th, we will be walking with other families of children with diabetes to raise money to research for a cure. To join our team “ Kaley &Kompany” and walk with us Sunday, October 19th, call me at 860-741-7734 or check out the website at http://walk.jdrf.org and indicate that you would like to walk “Kaley & Kompany”. If you are not able to walk with us but would be willing to sponsor our team, please consider making a donation. Every little bit will help and 80% of all donations go directly to fund the research for a cure.
Donations can easily be made at http://walk.jdrf.org and indicate that you would like to sponsor team “Kaley& Kompany”. Checks made out to JDRF can be mailed to Kaley & Kompany at 27 Foxcroft Rd., Enfield, CT 06082. Every dollar raised brings us closer to a cure not only for Kaley but the thousands of other children out there.
Thank you for caring.
