Welcome to Jack Wright's Personal Page
As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes almost 6 years ago, when I was 11 years old. My disease wasn't caused by my eating too much Christmas candy or not getting enough exercise. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune diesease that causes the pancreas to stop secreting the insulin that a body needs to regulate its blood sugar, and it can happen to anyone at any time. Having T1D means that I have to prick my fingers about 10 times a day to check my blood sugar, take insulin with a pump (the insulin goes into my body through an insertion site in my backside that I have to change every 2 days), and take extra precautions when I exercise, have a foodfest, or stress over a paper/exam or the Common App :)
Discovering a cure for Type 1 Diabetes would be so great! I look forward to the day when my family and I don't have to worry about my disease anymore. A cure would benefit the millions of people who suffer from T1D, and assure us long, healthy lives without complications.
For the last 6 years, I have done everything in my power to help find a cure. I help out at the annual Gala, give speeches at functions, help my Dad with the "Rallye for a Cure" (this year we raised over $11,000!), and am Captain to a Walk Team of 40+ friends and family members every Fall.
This is the 6th year my family, friends, and I will be walking with JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes! This year, the Walk is on October 19th at Six Flags New England. Last year, we had 40 teammembers walk with our team, and raised over $19,000! With your help, I hope to have even MORE support this year!
If you can walk with my team, The Jack Pack, on October 19th, then please register to walk with us and start collecting donations! Any walker who raises $50 in donations gets free admission to Six Flags for the day/night. Last year, we stayed til FrightFest was in full swing, and we all had a blast. So consider joining us, and raise as much money as you can!
If you can't walk with us, please consider making a donation to support me and my team, and help me to achieve my personal goal of $15,000.
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
