Welcome to Caden's Posse JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes personal fundraising page!
We are joining this year's Walk to raise money to improve the lives of millions of people with type 1 diabetes (TID). The money raised for JDRF will someday turn Type 1 into Type NONE.
On April 8, 2013 our lives changed forever. Caden was ill over the weekend, which we thought was the flu. By Sunday he seemed to be getting better, however, Monday morning it was obvious something was very wrong. We took him to his pediatrician who was able to smell the "fruity" scent of a diabetic's breath. Caden was taken by ambulance to Blank Children's Hospital - with the ambulance lights and sirens on all the way...Caden spent 3 days in PICU. Caden's life was forever changed that day.
EVERY day consists of poking his finger at least 4 times per day, monitoring blood glucose levels - attempting to keep that level between 80 and 140, counting EVERY carb that he puts in his mouth and making sure he gets just the right amount of insulin to cover those carbs ---too much insulin will cause a low (legs/arms may feel numb or shakey/ light-headed, nauseous)----too little insulin will cause a high (he becomes very tired, irritable and his speech slurs). Plus, every three days he changes his pump site, which consists of another larger poke - in the leg, or stomach depending where he places his port. With diabetes - there are no days off, and there is no cure.
This is why we are asking for your help! JDRF is working every day to change that. And, as the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research, every dollar JDRF directs toward its research plan comes from donors like you.
Please support my commitment and donate to my Walk fundraising efforts today. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people, like Caden, affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.
