We will turn Type One into Type None

Hello to our family and friends!

The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is coming up on May 10th and CJ's Team will walk at the Iowa State Fair Grounds - a new venue for the Des Moines walk. It has been 10 years since CJ was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (TID is the "hip" acronym) and this will be our 8th walk!  We invite you to support JDRF research by donating to CJ's Team.  Your contributions to help find a cure will certainly affect many of your loved ones who live with T1D - we have four in our family...Christian (CJ), Ron (CJ's grandpa), Carrie (CJ's aunt), and Sara (CJ's mom).

This year we will also walk in memory of Ann Marie Lundvall (CJ's aunt) who passed away on January 21, 2014.  Two months later, we found out Ann died because of ketoacidosis due to diabetes mellitus.  We will not know if she had type 2 or maybe type 1 was beginning for her...we do know we lost a dearly loved sister, daughter, aunt, and friend to diabetes.

CJ is managing his T1D more and more on his own but we are grateful for his nurse, Teresa, with the Gilbert schools who takes personal responsibility for Christian every day.  We owe her so much more than our thanks.  CJ's grandma and grandpa also lovingly care for him almost every day after school; we are so appreciative.  "CJ's Team" is very special!

Here's is CJ's Story...

A Story About Diabetes

Told by: C.J. Lundvall

Written by: Jules Lundvall

“ Hi. My name is C.J. and I’m going to tell you about my life with Diabetes.” I first got Diabetes when I was 13 months old. At first my parents did not know what was wrong, but then they took me to the doctor and the doctor said I had Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes. To help me, the doctors gave me insulin and a stuffed bear I named Rufus. A few years later when I turned 5 and a half, my doctor said I should consider using an insulin pump instead of giving handheld insulin shots. So I tried it, and my parents agreed that I should start using an insulin pump. So they taught me how to use it at home and at school. Don’t get me wrong I still use insulin shots if I have to in case say my insulin pump stopped working. That about wraps up this story so this is C.J. signing off (with Julianne), goodbye!!!

P.S. please donate money to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Thank you ALL so much for your continued support of JDRF and CJ's Team...a cure is so close...we can help bring it closer!

Our Love, CJ, Julianne, Dillan, John, and Sara
