Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!
Welcome to Lisa Kilbane's JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever.
Type 1 Diabetes cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on April 23rd, 1984. I was 8 years old.
I am often told that I am lucky because T1D is manageable. But that is just it. I am constantly managing it.
I am constantly thinking about it. I am constantly worrying about it. Is my blood sugar going up? Or down? How many carbs is in that? Did I take enough insulin? Did I take too much? I hope my pump doesn't alarm during this meeting. When and how should I tell my new friend that I am diabetic? Do I have glucose tablets or juice with me? It's time to calibrate my pump, but I am out of test strips. How many carbs is in that? Do I have extra insulin with me in case I run out or don't go straight home? Will people judge me based on my T1D? Have I ordered my pump supplies to arrive before I run out? How many carbs is in that? Will my kids ever have to deal with being T1D?
This is why we need to find a cure. So no one ever has to spend their life managing this disease.
This year, I will be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people like me living with and affected by type 1 diabetes. The money we raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
All donations will be matched by Ebco!
Please support Team Ebco and donate to our Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
