Ben's Empire: Why Do I Walk?

Welcome to Ben's Empire.  You've reached my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!

As background, Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.   Managing the disease involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections.

Last October, my son Ben was diagnosed with T1D, changing my life forever.  As you can imagine, my emotions ran in every direction, struggling with every imaginable scenario.  And when I was at my lowest, I looked at Ben, and saw that he was pretty unaffected, and watched how he just continued doing what he does best: Being an unbelievable kid.  So I decided, that if Ben was this strong, I had no excuse not be as well.

I involved myself with JDRF as JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

My family will be walking in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. We're taking steps (no pun intended) to help JDRF progressively remove the impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D) from people's lives until no one has to fear developing this disease. By joining Ben's Empire and making a donation to JDRF, you'll raise money to help fund critical T1D research and create a world without T1D.  That's the challenge.

Will you accept the challenge to make a difference by walking with us or donating? Just click on the "Join this Team" button, make a donation, and start fundraising.  As an example of me and my family's commitment, we will be matching at least the first $5,000 in donations to Ben's Empire.

Thank you for your support, and we'll see you on Walk day!
