Welcome to my personal JDRF Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes fundraising page! This year, I'll be taking part in the 32nd Annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes, along with one-half million other JDRF walkers and runners across the country, as we try to reach our nationwide goal of raising $94 million. I want to get a bunch of runners and walkers to join my team in honor of my son Matty Campbell, Patrick Scott, TJ Kenny & Claire Larsen (all four have type 1 diabetes).
As you may know, we have personal connections with diabetes, a disease that affects millions of children and adults - Matty Campbell, our son, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) 4 years ago. As a result, besides closely monitoring his diet, Matty must test his blood sugar levels five to six times a day and get insulin through shots or pumps daily. This equates to approximately 2,000 finger pricks and 1,500 needle insertions in the stomach every year. And this will continue every year for the rest of his life until a cure is found. I am so convinced that JDRF is on the right course that I joined the JDRF Northwest Chapter board 3 years ago. The strides that have been made to find a cure during our lifetime have been incredible, and we're convinced that a cure will be found during Matty's lifetime.
The good news: Matty has learned to live with T1D and now knows he can deal with whatever life throws his way. As you can imagine, this has forever changed the lives of everyone in our family. In our attempt to encourage and support Matty, while educating those we know, we have formed "Team Matty, Patrick, TJ & Claire - The MighT1's" for this year's Beat the Bridge. We have three goals: 1) raise money to support the research required to cure, treat and prevent T1D; 2) through direct personal support show Matty, Patrick & TJ that they are not alone with this disease; and 3) field the largest team at the event.
The year is a very special year for the Campbell family as Matty will be an ambassador for the Beat the Bridge! Please join our family as we Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes. We can offer 3 simple ways for you to get involved:
1. Come walk or run with us on May 18th at Husky Stadium and make Matty, Patrick, TJ & Claire - The MighT1's the largest at the event. To join our team, simply click the "Join This Team" button next to the sneaker above and follow the instructions. After you register, consider making a personal contribution and join our fundraising efforts.
2. Come cheer us on! If you aren't up for the walk or run but still want to participate, greet our team members as they cross the finish line on May 18th. The race begins and ends in front of Husky Stadium at the University of Washington. You can learn all about the event if you press the "About Beat The Bridge" button above.
3. If you can't make the event but would like to donate press the donate to Matt buton above and know that your money will be used to help find a cure for this disease. Matty and the entire Campbell family appreciate your donation.
You can be assured that your dollars will count - more than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. Past JDRF research efforts have helped to significantly improve the care of people with this disease, and have expanded the critical scientific understanding of T1D. Their goal is a cure, and our families want to do everything we can to support JDRF in the work they are doing to help the millions of kids with this disease. We greatly appreciate your consideration and support of this worthy cause. We look forward to having as many people as possible join us. Even if you can't join us at the event, we appreciate any and all donations made to Matty, Patrick, TJ & Claire as part of our fundraising.
If you have any questions or need any additional information, please don't hesitate to contact us. Again, thank you from all of us for your generous support of Matty.
Very truly yours,
Matt & Amy Campbell
