Dear family and friends,
We are so excited to be walking in JDRF's Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes this Sunday May 18th. By now you all know why: JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research. This event raises funds for JDRF's strategic plan to end diabetes by delivering new treatments that progressively remove the daily burden, side effects, and complications of the disease.
Preston would not be where he is today without JDRF. He is a thriving, smart and happy 5 year old boy anxiously awaiting the start of kindergarten this fall. Preston enjoys spending time with family and friends, can play Xbox Kinect Sports for hours at a time and loooves a good cookie. Technologies such as his insulin pump (which eliminates the need for insulin syringes) and continuous glucose meter (which monitors his plasma sugar every 5 minutes) allow him to partake in all of these passions with as little interruption as possible. Unfortunately, the realities are Preston still gets his fingers poked an average of 15 times per day, we still count carbohydrates for every morsel of food he puts into his mouth and his daily activities are still put on hold when he has to fight blood sugar lows and highs.
Our family is incredibly appreciative of JDRF and we walk every year to give back and help them move forward in our shared goals.
As always THANK YOU for your support and for helping JDRF create a world without diabetes -- for Preston and millions of others like him!!!
