Family and Friends,
It time to run again! As many of you know, I have Type 1 Diabetes. After my diagnosis just 5 years ago I have overcome some difficult adjustments while trying to find balance in life with Diabetes.
The struggles that I face every day like testing my blood sugar, giving myself multiple shots, as well as constant exhaustion and dehydration have been trying at best. My low blood sugar at times can cause severe reactions from my body as my pancreas struggles to process sugars and carbs. Imagine the permanent "food coma" everyday, that is best way to relate some one of the effects I deal with. I am excited to hear everyday about new methods that people are using to treat and beat Type 2 diabetes but unfortunately for me type 1 diabetes has no cure or prevention to date. I can't choose to become wearied and complacent to my lot in life. I have been given a gift. That gift is an ability to make a difference in the lives of others.
Last year my family participated in the JDRF Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes fundraising, 8K run and 4k walk because we feel very strongly about making a difference in the lives of those who struggle with diabetes; since it was such a success for us the previous 4 years we have chosen to do it again!
A little background for you: Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes is a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) with the mission of finding a cure for diabetes; The 8K Run has two challenges: to beat the University Bridge before it is raised, and to cross the finish line in Husky Stadium. My personal goal is to raise $1,000 by the end! The event is held on the morning of May 18th. I am confident that with your support we will reach our goal!
Lastly, if you would like to join our Team "Off The Hoek", and participate in Beat the Bridge with us, all you have to do is sign up by clicking on "Join My Team!" on my Participant page. Remember you don't have to do the 8k run there is also a 4k walk and a 1-mile fun run. Feel free to send Carl an email (email@example.com) if you are interested in participating. My sincerest gratitude to those of you who are able to make even the smallest of contributions, every bit helps. Please visit the link to join our team or donate!
Thank you in advance for all of your support!
With much love,
