I'm joining this year's event to raise funds for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Specifically, I'm participating with my co-workers at DCS to raise funds and awareness for Grace.
Grace was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2010 when her pancreas stopped producing insulin. She wears an insulin pump around the clock, monitors her blood sugar 10-14 times a day, and gives herself insulin 20 minutes before each meal. She also wears a Continual Glucose Monitory device that monitors her blood sugar to alert her family on lows and highs.
T1D impacts both children and adults and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. Managing it requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and a lifelong dependencey on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure. Grace is managing this disease well, but we want a cure!
If you can, help us out by donating to my fundraising efforts.
