Hello everyone!  Thank you for visiting our Team Mighty Meyer Family fundraising page for the 32nd Annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes!

My name is Jennifer Meyer Dell, I am the team captain for an awesome group of friends and family!  Please let me take a minute to tell you about us and why we are participating in this fundraiser for the amazing Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)!  My "little" brother, Mike, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the tender age of four.  He has been living and struggling with this disease for close to 28 years.

A little bit more about it...in T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, which is essential to the body’s ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. Managing T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.

I have to admit, the fact that Mike has T1D has been hard for me.  And is has been hard for my parents.  And hard for my brother's wife.  And hard for Mike's friends.  How selfish is that?  It makes me feel sad to even say that because I don't have to think about it every meal, every morning, every evening, and during every single activity I choose to participate in.  My brother does.  Everyone with T1D does.  JDRF recently issued a challenge for people to try "living" with T1D for a few days.  They would text you everytime you needed to check your blood sugar or give yourself a shot or something like that.  I was too chicken to participate because I knew how hard it would be.  I didn't even want to try it for one day!    :-( It is disease which really, really needs a cure! JDRF is working tirelessly to find one.  I am really looking forward to doing what we can to help by participating in this race and fundraiser.

I'm so proud of my brother.  I truly can't imagine what it has been like.  By the way, Mike, where's your shot stuff?!?!?! ;-)
