We will turn Type One into Type None

Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!

Dear Family and Friends,
On May 3rd, our family will be walking in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes! As you all probably know on September 15 2013 we had our world turned upside down when our 7 year old fought for her life in the hospital ICU. Type 1 diabetes affects millions of children and adults. It is an autoimmune disorder and anyone can get it. You might not know that my husband is also a type 1 diabetic as well. There is only a 6% chance that a child of a parent thats type 1 will end up with it. In T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, which is essential to the body’s ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. Managing T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.

Our lives have been forever changed. We couldn't have imagined what was in store for us as we watched our little girl laying helpless in her hospital bed. She is constantly hanging on taking multiple shots and glucose checks every day. Its a constant struggle to watch your child not want to do this anymore and to be so sick all the time. Her face is so saddened by this yet so strong at the same time. We fear for her future every second and cry for her pain. We worry kids will treat her different as they've started to do and that adults wont be educated and will say something hurtful. Worrying constantly when shes away. Poking her little finger in the middle of the night when shes asleep to check her levels feeling so guilty for the pain but knowing its to help keep her alive. Watching her breathe and praying that she wakes up in the morning and doesn't fall into a coma or pass away in her sleep. We couldn't live without this little girl. She is a warrior and the toughest person we know.

Our hope is that her future will be bright and that she will live each day to the next and live it to the fullest. Please help us to raise awareness, educate others, and Fundraise to Support Cesily and others going through what she is.

We have formed a walk team to raise money and help JDRF create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) where no one has to fear developing this serious autoimmune disease. Please help By joining our Walk to Cure Diabetes team and/or making a donation to JDRF, you can be part of the effort to improve the lives of millions of people affected by T1D.  You can make a donation in support of Cesily in any amount. Online donations are safe and secure at walk.jdrf.org and search under donate to a walker and type Cesily's name or team. Or you can accept the challenge to make a difference in your community by joining us! Just click “Join This Team” to become a team member and start fundraising. Or click “Donate to This Team” to make a donation!

We greatly appreciate your consideration and support for this cause! JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every donation, big or small, from donors like you, allows JDRF to fund the critical research needed to find a cure. They will not rest until T1D is conquered!
Thank you all for your support and Love!

Yours Truly,

Cesily, Eddie, Whitney, Tayven and Stormi
