I'm participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes!
Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! I'll be taking part in this year’s Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening and they know it never goes away. It is part of their lives 24/7 and everything they do is affected by it.
I am asking for your support. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes including my wonderful son Nico and my cousin's son Ethan.
A message I typed up tonight to help people understand what these amazing kids go through:
ok guys and gals, it is time to open your hearts and help kids like Nico that suffer from this 24/7 disease. This isn't your grandparents "don't eat sugar" diabetes. This is a disease that is controlling kids lives and sometimes taking those lives from them. We need a cure now. These poor kids get poked in a week more than most of us will in our lives. They NEVER just feel ok like we do. Depending on their blood sugars, they feel tired, cranky, shaky, have headaches, pain, nauseous, feel angry, feel sad, fuzzy (as my son calls it), etc, etc........ I dream of the day Nico can sleep through the night and not be tested, fed, have his site changed, or be woken up to pee on a ketostix to test for ketones. I dream of the day he can go to his friends house and spend the night like other kids, play outside without testing and getting a snack first, take a shower and not have to have a site or sensor inserted into him when he gets out, not having to count carbs of everything that enters his mouth, not having to carry glucotabs with us every place we go so he doesn't have a seizure, not having to worry every night when I go to sleep that I might miss one of my many alarms to check him and I wake up to find him in a coma or dead, not worrying every morning when I leave for work that something will go wrong during the day and I will never see him again. Type 1 Diabetes is our life!!!!! We live, sleep, eat, breathe diabetes. Nico didn't get this because he ate too much sugar or he is overweight. He was diagnosed on his 1st Birthday and spent that birthday in PICU fighting for his life! Try listening to your son tell you and your daughter how he wants his funeral and what he wants to be buried in because he is certain you will outlive him. Try listening to your kid ask you if you think he would have more friends if he didn't have Type 1 Diabetes. Please find it in your heart to donate your money or your time to join our team, Nico's Supernovas, and find a cure for this disease. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Did you know that:
T1D is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age?
T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle?
Those living with T1D must carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night?
Those living with T1D must test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood 6 or more times a day?
As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
