Please donate to help me create a world without type 1 diabetes for my boys! Every dollar counts!

Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! Thank you for considering donating to JDRF on my behalf! My fundraising deadline is August 23, 2014 when the official walk takes place at historic Churchill Downs. **For anyone who has donated but not listed their email address, please know that I really really appreciate your help!!**

As you may know, I developed type 1 diabetes (T1D) during my senior year of college. I was living in Wichita, Kansas for six months while interning for Raytheon Aircraft. I was far from my family and my family doctor. I was so busy during my internship that I did not notice that I had lost 12 pounds. Then I noticed that my mouth was so dry that I could not swallow food without also taking a drink to wash it down. I ended up on a soup and ice cream diet because those were the only foods that I could easily swallow. My coworkers at Raytheon started to suspect that I was diabetic based on my symptoms and got me an appointment with a very nice family doctor. On Halloween (ironic since it is the holiday of high-sugar candy!) I had my first fingerstick blood sugar test at that Kansas doctor's office. My blood sugar registered high at 336 mg/dL (about four times what it should be). I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic and my life has not been the same since.

I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by T1D. The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until NO ONE has to fear developing the disease.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure...yet.

JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?

Thank you for your support!
