Please Donate to the 6th Four Rivers Walk to Cure Diabetes!
Happy Summer 2014 everyone! I am gearing up for the 6th Four Rivers Walk to Cure Diabetes! I hope to see all of you on August 16, 2014, at Noble Park at 11:00am! (new walk time this year - earlier in the day) Registration is at 10:30am and the walk will be at 11:30am. Thank you to all who have donated the past 5 years. Our walk goal this year is $100,000. I need your help to reach this goal. Once again this year, the Shadoan Family will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our nationwide goal of raising $94 million. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
I am doing well living with diabetes, but as you know I have good days and bad days with high and low blood sugars, insulin pumps that fall off, sensors that alarm for no reason, and other common childhood illnesses, along with dealing with diabetes. I am finished with my junior year at PTHS - I can't believe I will be a senior next year and have been living with type 1 since I was 10 years old. I am doing well academically and am on the tennis team. I ran cross country in the fall. I have been visiting colleges and hope to start applying soon. This summer, I am life-guarding and spending time at the lake with friends. While juggling all this, I have to monitor everything I eat or drink and calculate how much insulin I should take to control my carbohydrate intake. It is a lot for anyone to handle! I try my best to be like everyone else! We are asking for your support. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes. We are so thankful that Congressman Whitfield was able to get the SPD (Special Diabetes Plan) passed for funding for another year. He has been instrumental in encouraging the FDA to pass the guidelines for the artificial pancreas. We are getting closer with the artificial pancreas becoming a reality for adults and kids like me outside of trial studies. It is the next step towards a cure for me. This is the closest device I have to a cure for diabetes. We need to get this device approved and out into the market for all those who live with type 1 diabetes. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
We hope you can join us Saturday, on August 16, 2014 at Noble Park for the 6th Annual Four Rivers Walk to Cure Diabetes! Please join Parker's Pack and donate now to my team.
