Me having to stop at Disney to take care of Type 1 Diabetes
take steps towards a cure
Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!
Hi! It's me, Olivia!
You might know me as the fun girl that loves to laugh and smile with my family and friends. But there is so much more to know. I also love to draw, rock hunt, play with my sister, hang out with my friends, go swimming, spend time at the beach and make crafts. One of my newest favorite things is learning how to knit and I am also on my third year of golfing.
And guess what??? I do all of this while taking care of my Type 1 Diabetes.
No, it's not easy. There are a lot of days where I am tired because I was up for most of the night checking my blood sugar. I also have to eat when I am having a low, even if no one else is eating or if I am not hungry. Sometimes, I can't feel when my insulin isn't working and I end up being too high with my blood sugars. The worst is when I am sick. If I get ketones or my body goes into ketoacidosis, I am at risk for having to go get an IV at the hospital. Because of that, I have to be careful whenever I am around people that think a cold is no big deal. To me, it can be very serious.
I've had type 1 diabetes for almost 8 years. I try to make it seem like its no big deal but it is. More than anything, I wish that we had a cure. Especially because my best friend also has type 1 diabetes. That friend is my sister, Reece. I wish we could cure type 1 diabetes for her and for me.
With your help, we can step closer to that goal. All you need to do is join our walk team or make a donation or do both. Together, we can get a cure.
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
