Again this year Brad and I along with other family members will join our grandson HANK'S TEAM. We, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes. The goal is to raise $89 million to fund diabetes research. The Minnesota Walk is February 22, 2014 at the Mall of America.
Hank is 11 and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 6. He manages quite well but there are no days off for him and we all look for the day when there is a cure for this disease.
Type 1, or juvenile diabetes affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.
Brad and I are encouraged by what we have learned about the research being done in many places. We are not scientists but since Hank's diagnosis we have had many opportunities to meet and talk to medical people who believe that diabetes can be cured in Hank's lifetime.
JDRF funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Last year, thanks to your generosity, HANK'S TEAM was one of the leading fund raisers in Minnesota raising almost $6,000. Brad and I hope you will be part of Hank's Team in 2014.
