Help Me Find a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes

Hi, I'm Cole. My mom asked me to write my story of how I got diabetes. Here it is.

It was Christmas break and a kind of gloomy day too. And I was not feeling right, of course I wasn't feeling right for quite a few weeks now. I was extremely thirsty and going to the bathroom once every two minutes. So one day my mom decided to take me to the doctor. They ran a few tests when the doctor came in the room and said that I had type 1 diabetes. So they sent me right to the hospital right away. So I stayed there for a few days. Including Christmas. And I didn't eat for two days.

Finally I got to eat again. It was Christmas Day. But I didn't get to go home. The next day I went home.

(Cole's mom again. Thanks for all of your support. Cole's good-natured accepance of his new life has been amazing to watch, and I feel lucky every day that I got such a great kid. Some background for those who don't know about TID):

T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, which the body needs to get energy from food. Managing the disease requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.

JDRF is working every day to change that. And, as the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research, every dollar JDRF directs toward its research plan comes from donors like you.
