Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease, where the pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly changing their life as they knew it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
As you probably know, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 4 years ago. I was on a road trip when all the symptoms manifested. Even though I've had to change many things, I haven't let this disease control my life. In some ways, I would say I am living better because of it.
I'll be taking part in this Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it can be difficult and life threatening. It never goes away.
I am asking for your support. My amazing friends and family can help me reach my personal fundraising goal of $5000. You can help make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes., INCLUDING ME!
A few facts:
T1D is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age. Most people think Type 1 only affects children. I was 31 when I was diagnosed.
T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. It has definitely made me change my eating habits though! More salads and less take out. I try to exercise more often than I used to.
Those living with T1D must carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with low sugar.
Those living with T1D must test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood 6 or more times a day. It's really not as bad as you think! Actually, my fingerprints are probably changed forever because of it. Kind of neat!
As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. Please give to JDRF as generously as possible.
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
