Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!
Welcome to my JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes personal fundraising page!
We are joining this year's Walk as members of Danny's Diabetes Ninjas to raise funds to improve the lives of millions of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Our neighbors and dear friends have a son, Danny, who is Kate's age and has had T1D since age 3. Since that time he has undergone 8-12 finger sticks a day to keep his blood sugar within a safe range, close and accurate monitoring of everything that he eats and drinks, and, before his insulin pump, 4-5 shots per day to give him life saving insulin. Plus, his family endures sleeplessness and worry about his blood sugar levels. Through technology and research advances, he now has an insulin pump that will last for 1-3 days before needing a site change, which has made a big difference in his quality of life. But, there is lots more work to be done!
T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, which the body needs to get energy from food. Managing the disease requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
Danny's family is truly inspirational. They work hard to help him to feel like a normal child - and they are working to give him the tools to manage his own health as he grows up. But it's a scary autoimmune disease for which there is no cure. People with type 1 diabetes must take insulin to stay alive. JDRF is committed to its mission of better treatments, prevention and ultimately a cure for this disease.
Please support my commitment and donate to my Walk fundraising efforts today. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.
