Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!
In October of 2011, Aidan Nichter (son of Mike and grandson of Don) was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Since then the family has learned a great deal about this disease (treatment; long term impact; research; Etc.)
Aidan is a bright and energetic 11 year old who is an excellent student; plays both soccer and basketball and generally embraces life. He is doing a great job of managing the disease, but we look for the day that he will not have to "manage" it, nor deal with the long term consequences, which can be substantial.
There is an outstanding national organization, called the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (see attached link). Through the efforts of the JDRF great strides have been made in recent years and there are some promising advances tied to the genetic research they are doing.
Our family supports the great work of the JDRF. This year the NICHTER TEAM of Coldwell Banker Prime is sponsoring a team in their annual walk, on May 4th at SUNY Albany. There are already a number of walkers on Aidan's team. While we are happy to have more walkers, what we really need now are donations and are asking you to consider helping this cause.
While larger donations are great, we have found that a large number of smaller donations add up fast. Don and his wife Ellen will match the 1st $1,000.00 raised through this effort. The JDRF is structured in such a way that 100% of the donations go directly to research.
