Hello! As many of you know, our daughter Mia Cooper was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on March 16, 2007 two days before she turned 11 months old. Her brother DJ was also diagnosed at 16 months in 2011. This year, once again we will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $90 million. Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people a large and growing percentage of them children. There is some good news, though. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within our lifetime! Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
We will be walking on Sunday May 4, 2014 at SUNY Albany. We are looking for people to join our team Cooper’s Crew or to donate money. Last year we raised $5,000. Our team goal is to beat our $5,000 in donations record for diabetes. Each day we are learning something new about this disease, we hope that someday there is a cure so Mia and DJ and others with diabetes don’t have to live with this disease. Mia and DJ are doing well; they are your typical kids that enjoy sports and playing with their cousins. Julie was born on September 2007 she was tested and she too has the gene for diabetes. Julie has a 1 in 14 chance of developing the disease like her sister. Mia and DJ both wear an insulin pump 24 hours a day He is tested 8 to 10 times a day. We change their site every 2 days. They don’t like needles but they knows they need insulin to make them feel better. We are learning more and more about the disease each day and all 3 kids are learning as well. Please walk with us and help us to raise money for diabetes research. Insulin is not a cure but a lifeline. They are so close to a cure.
